Top 5 NHL GPP Stacks for Thursday, December 22

Erik Karlsson
Erik Karlsson

There are 10 games on the NHL schedule tonight and both DraftKings and FanDuel are offering some excellent contests to take part in. The best strategy to score big in these tournaments is to roster players that often skate together. When one scores, there is likely to be correlation as linemates are usually picking up assists. This correlation is usually the key to producing the big scores that are needed to top a large field.

Top 5 NHL Stacks for December 22

The Stack: C Kyle Turris, W Bobby Ryan, W Ryan Dzingel, D Erik Karlsson

Expected ownership: Low

The Ducks are a tired group, and it showed on Tuesday night against Montreal when they were only able to muster a paltry 13 shots on goal. Tonight will be their 13th game in 24 days, and we suspect they'll be eager to get out of the cold in Canada, and get their Holiday break started in sunny SoCal.

The Senators, meanwhile, are playing solid hockey entering the break with 3 wins in a row and 13 goals scored in that span. They are somewhat tricky to stack because their top two lines are mixed up when it comes to the power play, but this unit is our choice tonight as Ryan is currently riding a 4-game goal streak and has historically tended to be a streaky player. As for Karlsson, no explanation is needed. He's the top offensive defenseman out there tonight and the matchup is great.

The Stack: C Patrice Bergeron, W Brad Marchand, W David Pastrnak

Expected ownership: Low

Keep an eye on Twitter to make sure Pastrnak, who has missed the previous 2 games, suits up for this one. If he does, he's an excellent player to roster tonight. In the last meeting between these two teams, the Panthers had no answer for him, as he was all over the ice dominating the game, ultimately scoring the OT winner to cap off his 2-goal night.

The Panthers will look for ways to slow him down, but it isn't likely to happen. The Panthers top defensive forward is Aleksander Barkov and he will likely be deployed against this line, but his wingers are Seth Griffith and the ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr. Jagr is a legend, but he'll have trouble keeping up with the Bruins speedy wingers. If the Panthers opt for the faster Marchessault-Trocheck-Smith unit to match up with this line, the crafty Bergeron should be able to give Trocheck fits.

The Stack: C Aleksander Barkov, W Jaromir Jagr, W Seth Griffith

Expected ownership: Low

We like the other side of this game as well. After an odd 21-game goalless drought (where he was playing pretty well, but was just snakebit), Barkov has been extremely consistent. He has 6 goals and 5 assists over his past 10 games, while Jagr over the same span has been solid with 2 goals and 5 assists. Seth Griffith has been skating with them at both even strength and on the power play the past 5 games and has 3 assists in that span. However, making a stack without him and with D Keith Yandle or C Nick Bjugstad (both on the top power play unit with Barkov and Jagr) instead is an option as well.

The Stack: C Travis Zajac, W Taylor Hall, W Michael Cammalleri

Expected ownership: Low

We aren't giving up on the Devils, They are on a 7-game losing streak, their general manager called them out, and there is no reason for anybody to roster them. This game, though, is a really good spot for them.

Their stock is at its lowest point of the season, while their opponent tonight (the Flyers) are riding high after a shootout victory over the Caps last night. The Flyers could see this game on the schedule and decide to start their Holiday break early, taking it easy against a Devils team that has been challenged to man up and play harder.

The Stack: C Teuvo Teravainen, W Sebastian Aho, W Lee Stempniak

Expected ownership: Low

The Aho-Teravainen-Stempniak unit has quietly had some big games recently. In 2 of their past 6 games, each player on this line put up a solid 2 point game, and a big part of scoring big in a GPP is finding offense from an unexpected line that has the potential to put up numbers. This line is also together on the power play, and the Canes as a whole are 5 for 12 in their last 4 games on their improving power play.
