Top 5 NHL GPP Stacks for Tuesday, December 20

Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby

There are 12 games on the NHL schedule tonight and both DraftKings and FanDuel are offering some excellent contests to take part in. The best strategy to score big in these tournaments is to roster players that often skate together. When one scores, there is likely to be correlation as linemates are usually picking up assists. This correlation is usually the key to producing the big scores that are needed to top a large field.

Top 5 NHL Stacks for December 20

The Stack: C Sidney Crosby, W Connor Sheary, W Patric Hornqvist

Expected ownership: Medium

Two weeks ago, Rangers backup goalie Antti Raanta was named second star of the week. Last week, Henrik Lundqvist got back in the net and earned a second star of the week for himself. The Rangers goaltending and defense have been very good lately, but that is likely to end in a big way tonight.

Lundqvist has been far from himself against these Penguins the last season and a half. After getting crushed by them in the playoffs, he faced them once this season and got lit up, allowing 4 goals in just half a game before getting pulled. The Rangers also learned yesterday that Rick Nash reaggravated a groin injury, and he's been their best forward of late offensively and defensively.

Crosby scored twice the last time these teams met and another big night for him is in store.

The Stack: C Tyler Seguin, W Jamie Benn, W Patrick Eaves

Expected ownership: Low

The Stars last played on Saturday, ending the Flyers winning streak with a 3-1 victory. They host the Blues tonight, who will be on the second night of a back-to-back having lost to the Oilers in OT last night. Aside from being the fresher team for this contest, the Stars have fared well against he Blues so far this season. They are 1-0-1 against them with 9 goals scored, so the potential to score goals is there against the overrated Blues defense and goaltending.

The Stack: C Travis Zajac, W Taylor Hall, W Kyle Palmieri

Expected ownership: Low

It might surprise you to learn that the New Jersey Devils are actually the best home team in the NHL at this point. They are 8-1-2 at home and goalie Cory Schneider has not suffered a regulation loss in Newark yet. They face the Predators tonight, who are coming off of a shootout victory last night in Philly. Not that the Preds will be overly tired, but the Devils should come out flying in this one. They have fallen in the standings due to their poor road play, but have shown themselves to be a much better team at home.

The splits for certain players, like Taylor Hall, are pretty telling. In 9 home games (he has missed a few games with an injury), Hall has 13 points. In 14 road games, he has 7 points. We expect Hall and the Devils to to keep that trend going with better individual and team play at the Prudential Center tonight.

The Stack: C Eric Staal, W Charlie Coyle, W Zach Parise

Expected ownership: Medium

Things are falling apart for the Avs, losers of 10 of their last 12 games. They face a red hot Wild team tonight, who have won 7 straight. This is often a spot where we go the other way in an attempt to be contrarian, but there's been nothing from the Avalanche lately that is worth talking up. They have been very flat in their past two games scoring just twice, and against Devan Dubnyk, the NHL's best statistical goalie, we don't see any success.

The Wild's top line has been very consistent of late, with Eric Staal riding a 4-game point streak.

The Stack: C Bo Horvat, W Sven Baertschi, W Alex Burrows

Expected ownership: Low

The Winnipeg Jets, true to form over recent seasons, are much worse on the road than they are at home. And since they are facing the lowly Canucks tonight, the Jets are likely to be much more owned in this game.

However, the Canucks haven't been too bad lately. They recently beat the Lightning, and took the Jackets to OT, so we think that they can not only win this game, but put up a lot of goals in the process. In their last three games, the Baertschi-Horvat-Burrows line has combined for 5 goals and 8 assists, so we think that's the one to roll with.
